NSW: Man seriously injured after Blue Mountains accident
SYDNEY, April 6 AAP - A man was in hospital with serious head injuries after his ute
collided head-on with a truck in the Blue Mountains, NSW police said today.
The 48-year-old Lithgow man was driving his ute west along the Great Western Highway
at Mount Victoria about 2.20pm yesterday when he crossed to the wrong side of the road,
colliding with a coal truck.
The truck flipped onto its side, spilling its load and blocking the highway for several hours.
The ute driver was trapped in his vehicle for two hours before being released by NSW
Fire Brigade officers.
He was airlifted from the crash scene by Careflight and taken to St George District
Hospital, where he was in a critical condition with serious head and chest injuries.
The truck driver, a 39-year-old Emu Plains man, was treated at Katoomba Hospital for
minor injuries and later released.
