Vic: Replica mediaeval swords stolen from Kryal Castle
Victorian tourist attraction Kryal Castle has lost 15 replica mediaeval swords worth
$5500 in an overnight robbery.
The replica castle -- at Warrenheip, near Ballarat, west of Melbourne -- stages mock
sword fights and other mediaeval events and theatrical productions.
Castle manager KEITH RYALL says the rare swords from Spain had been delivered only
three days earlier and were not insured.
He believed the thieves had seen them on display in the castle armoury and returned
at night to take them.
The swords, while not sharpened and not useable as a weapon, are extremely large.
Mr RYALL says one, known as The Terminator, was 1.6 metres long, and he was puzzled
as to how thieves would dispose of it, as the sword is a specialist item.
A police spokesman says the swords were taken from the armoury after thieves forced
the door sometime between 7pm (AEDT) yesterday and 10am today.
