NSW: NSW country rail tracks in disrepair: report
SYDNEY, Aug 5 AAP - More than a third of NSW's rural rail network is not good enough,a state government report has reportedly found.
The report found that almost two fifths of the network had track that was not of "reasonablequality" and about a fifth of lines were rated as being of poor quality, according toThe Sydney Morning Herald.
The report also found the network's condition had slid dramatically downhill over thelast four years.
"This deterioration ... is impacting on safety through increased rail breaks and defects,"
the paper quoted the report as saying.
"The amount of reasonable quality track has fallen from 81 per cent to 62 per centin four years and this has occurred across all track types."
The report also said inadequate regular maintenance was contributing to the network'swoes, which were also hampering efficiencies through speed restrictions.
